Well, as part as my endevour to move away from SourceForge, I decided to open an account on JavaForge. I will give a try to Tigris.org as well later; I want to give a full review for each platform, separately.
Creating an account was a breeze, and suprrisingly creating a project was just as easy. While at SourceForge the process of creating a project is: fill up a Really long form; wait for a few days until they approve your project; constantly check SourceForge because they will not send you an email regarding the status of your project.
The JavaForge interface looks a bit lacking, though. They use a platform called CodeBeamer by Intland Software. First impressions of it weren’t too good - It doesn’t look nice, and it doesn’t “feel” nice. I should give it some more time, though - I haven’t even started loading my files in yet. In comparison, though, Tigris.org are using CollabNet, which looks more promising and is also used by dev.java.net, Sun’s open source developers network.
However, if I was to wish for something, I would wish for them to aquire the free license for open source projects from Atlassian and provide Jira and Confluence, like CodeHaus provides.
Now the next big step: Migrating my code and issues. I just hope the documentations are good on how to do it well… Luckily I don’t have many issues, and I don’t mind leaving the ones already closed behind. I will fill you in on how this progresses.
PS. I realise I haven’t been posting this weekend, and I wonder how many of you actually noticed. I was away in London (you can read a bit about it on my personal blog here). I will post something about this sometime soon.
